Rabbi Elie Berkowitz

Shana Aleph rebbe

While Rabbi Berkowitz joined the OJ staff in 2009, he is no stranger to the yeshiva.

He attended Ohr Yerushalayim as a student from 2001-2003, and the yeshiva is proud to have him back on board helping mold the next generation of OJ talmidim. After teaching in OJ in the evenings for the last few years, Rabbi Berkowitz has joined the morning staff beginning the 2016-2017 school year.

R' Berkowitz grew up in Miami Beach Florida, where he attended Weinbaum Yeshiva High School.

From there he moved on to OJ, and after marriage he returned to Eretz Yisroel in 2007 with his family, settling in the Ramat Eshkol section of Yerushalayim.

R' Elie believes in connecting with the students on a practical and comfortable level. Whether it is through his home invitations, energetic style in the Bais Medrash, or on the basketball court during lunch break, he thrives on being "one of the boys", while at the same time impressing upon the talmidim the full meaning of being a Ben Torah. In his soft-spoken manner, his messages rings loud and clear in the hearts of the countless talmidim that he has inspired over the last few years.
